#GivingTuesday – November 28, celebrates its sixth year of encouraging people to support nonprofit organizations such as Fight for Sight in the context of the holiday season.

By remembering us on #GivingTuesday you allow Fight for Sight to continue its seven decade mission of supporting and inspiring eye and vision research by funding promising scientists early in their careers.

2017 ARVO Conference
We honored ARVO's 2017 Weisenfeld Award recipient, Johanna Seddon, MD, ScM, FARVO of Tufts University School of Medicine and Tufts Medical Center. Every year in early May, ARVO hosts 11,000 researchers to review and discuss current vision research.

Gail M. Seigel, PhD, FARVO, FFS's 2017 Alumni Achievement Award recipient, presented a poster at the ARVO - Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology Conference in Baltimore. She received her Alumni Achievement at FFS's Alumni Reception, which is held annually at ARVO. Dr. Seigel is a faculty member at SUNY- University at Buffalo who received a 2004 FFS Grant-in Aid. She currently Chairs the Posterior section of FFS's Scientific Review Committee.

AUPO 2017

Arthur Makar, Fight for Sight's Executive Director, recently attended the annual meeting of Association
of University Professors of Ophthalmology. While there he had the opportunity to meet with collegues
including Dr. Roy Chuck from Montefiore Medical Center, Brian Hofland from Research to
Prevent Blindness and Dr. James Tsai from New York Eye and Ear Institue of Mount Sinai.

Monday, October 24th, 2016
We honored Joel S. Schuman, M.D., FACS, Professor and Chairman of
Ophthalmology, NYU Langone Medical Center and Vincent Favale, VP., CBS East Coast
Late Night Programming. We thank Vinit B. Mahajan, M.D., PHD and Sandra Blackwood
for speaking about their Fight for SIght experiences.

We also thank Norman B. Medow, M.D., for his auctioneering skills and
Gus Rosendale
, NBC4, for being a fabulous emcee.

Fight for sight and nearly two dozen of its colleaues from organizations committed to
the advancement of eye research, convened on September 17, 2014, in Washington, DC, to
discuss vision research funding and a role for future collaboration in preventing, treating, and
curing vision disorders. The meeting was hosted by Reseach to Prevent Blindness and was
an important first step toward collaborations. 


Thank you for helping!
We had over 50 bowlers at four different venues to help raise money for Fight for Sight.
And we Honored John LaSpina's tong-time dedication to Fight for SIght, which today spans 50 years.
